Rocky Mountain Bikes for the Extreme Biking Ecstasy

Want to jive with a bike through the treacherous trails of the mountains? Get on Rocky Mountain bikes and be ready for an electrifying ride! Rocky bikes are exceptional with a zing of difference. But the offerings of Rocky encompass the desires and needs of myriad off road cyclists

The World Of Rocky Mountain Bike

Rocky bikes are embossed with innovation, quality and value with exceptional design, fabrication, CNC-machining, paint and pre-assembly done in-house in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Rocky mountain bike is one of the leaders who realized that future biking is going to rely heavily on full suspension. They are the one who bought out the 3D Link multi-pivot linkage design years ago. There were bikes for huge downhill travel and free ride bikes. The want was of middle one, a lightweight design for more travel.

ETSX Or Energy Transfer System

The quest ended with ETSX. This is a featherweight package weighing 12.9 kilograms for the 19” size and literally you can do ANYTHING with this bike.

This is geared with a double A-arm design, which as per the claim of Rocky Mountain is derived from Formula 1 racecar suspension. The design is beautiful with light and small suspension components. The main pivot point lies above the crank and just in front of the seat tube.

Moreover, there is really no chain stay, which can get in the way of the drive train. Sealed bearings at all of the pivots make the construction superb. By and large the rear wheel stays firmly planted onto the ground and the extra special traction is smooth under all conditions. Now great news! You can flip a quick release and alter the travel from 3.5 to 4.5 inches for a good ride in rough terrains for long travels and for an easy climb to the top of the mountain.

Some Other Specialties Of ETSX

1. The frame is prepared with Easton Bi-Oval RAD tubing

2. The welding is rock solid and big

3. The Fox Float RLC front fork has a very efficient lever on top of the right fork leg to control the spring tension

4. Two bottle mounts, one above and one below the down tube are there

The Part Mix Is Scrumptious. The List Goes Like This

1. Shimano 515 clipless pedals

2. The hubs, cranks, disc brakes, shifters and front derailleur are from Shimano XT

3. Thermo SP headset and Deus stem

4. Handlebar from favorite Easton Carbon Monkey Lite

5. Tires are from marvelous Hutchinson Mosquito

6. Wheelset is Rockies in house built Wheeltech, which includes Mavic X223 Disc rims, and DT spokes

At present, ETSX has three models.

Finding The Right Bike

Size does matter! And the best way to get the perfect size is testing several sizes in person at a Rocky Mountain bike dealer.

2009 Trek 8000. Kinda expensive compared to the last 8000 I had, But nice paint job. Great service at Trek of Tampa Bay on Macdill Av. as they gave me shimano clipless pedals ,chainstay guard ,and helmet at no charge. SLX shifters are not as good as my 2000 XTR shifters so I guess my next upgrade will be to get the new xt shifters. Maybe some one can chime in on the difference between the newest XT & XTR shifters

The Shimano Ultegra clipless pedal system (which includes the Shimano SPD-SL Cleat Sets) is is my first set of clipless pedals so I don’t have anything to compare them to but they work fine and I got comfortable with them quickly.

These are the standard Shimano cleats that wear out and you unbolt the old ones and replace them with these. The only issue is the screws that hold them on. They come with short screws and mine need a longer screw … I think they come with 8mm screws and I need a 10 mm for my Sidi shoes. Ultimately I found some out of a bike shop in LA (Jensen) — $4 for screws $4 for shipping… Or if you are a true sport you can get the Titanium screws for $10 each! My old cleats were held on with a collection of hardware from various sources … screws need to be tightened every so often. But enough about screws …

These are the only cleats I have owned, so I don’t have anything to compare them to, BUT I have had them for 3 years. I have not replaced them. I bought them as a beginner cyclist and have used them since. My cleats are a bit worn, but they still work just fine. I’ve probably ridden 3000 miles on these cleats, and competed in 14 triathlons in these cleats (which involves walking/running in them). So, my cleats have taken quite a beating and are still working just fine. Yes, other cleats may be easier to walk in and may hold up better, but they may not be the best cleats for riding on the road. SPD cleats are not the best road cleat nor are they easy to walk in on slippery surfaces. I like the SPD-SL cleats because they have rubber parts that stick out and contact the ground when you walk. They aren’t the easiest to walk in, but if you want to walk in your bike shoes, you might consider MTB shoes instead. Personally, I ride my bike in my bike shoes and occasionally have to walk in them a few feet. I have the floating cleats, but they also come in a fixed version which are red, instead of yellow. The only downside to these cleats is that they are a tad hard to unclip. Even with the tension as loose as it will go, I find it a bit tough, but I’m now used to it and don’t give it a second thought when I unclip. Sometimes they can be a bit hard to clip into, but I think that is more user error than the cleats themselves. ;) Overall, I would highly recommend these cleats and pedals for road riding.

I had these cleats for about 4 months. Now they need to be replaced.

I am really disappointed at the quality of the engineering design because the ultegra cleats do quickly wear down compared to SPDs or even Look series pedals. The color contact portions grind off rather fast. The clip in gets duller and duller as the color contact points wear down. The issue is also the fact the plastics are not cast out of the same material, there is a delamination of the two plastic layers, further complicating the durability of the cleat.

My SPD cleats lasted 10 years without an issue. As matter of fact, they still work. When I switched to Ultegras, they worn down so badly, I have to buy a new pair just 4 months in.

I have been using these cleats for about 4-years…Just replaced the yellow (floating) with the red-trim (fixed). I guess I am a glutten for punishment! Both configurations are almost impossible to clip into, first try. What is perhaps worse about the red (fixed) cleat is that in my opinion it needs to be very acurately aligned to avoid knee injury.

Overall, am most unhappy about the cleat-pedal design because I have not yet learned to simply “snap in” on the first try! Shimano SM-SH10 SPD-SL Cleat Pair, Fixed

I guess the only difference between them is the 2010 had elixer 5 brakes. However these brakes still offer no more adjustability than the juicy 5. Both paint jobs look great but the 09 does stand out a bit more. But these bikes are expensive for a hardtail and a discount should be a huge factor in your decision

  7. andresco50 says:

hey bro nice bike I want the 2010 model but only changes the frame!! I like more the paint job of the 2009 what do u think? I can get the 2009 with a great discount

  15. MMOUNTAINBIKER1 says:

yea just got mine out the shop. They bleed the brakes so had to wash abd wax it. I reccomending waxing the black paint to keep the scratches to a minumum. Mine still looks immaculate and ride it 100 miles per week. I usually dont crash and it is expensive but ive seen 29ners with less good parts cost way more. 29ners are in and people are paying a premium.
I have also found that the brakes take a month to break in completely. where do you ride?

  16. SICKBOY687 says:

other than that its a nice bike … expensive but top quality, have crashed mine twice already lol … but my knees took the brunt of the crashes ….

  17. SICKBOY687 says:

got my new 8000 … but im not happy with it ! trek have decided to put a massive bontrager riser bar on it instead of the flat cross country bar … so now i have to buy a flat bar myself otherwise it will look like a bloody cow once my barends are fitted !

  18. MMOUNTAINBIKER1 says:

not a scratch on my beautiful black waxed frame. my front rotor and finger resting on the brake lever took the whole brunt of the collision

  19. JROD9496 says:

Oh my god are you alright and the bike?

  20. MMOUNTAINBIKER1 says:

I crashed mine today on the trail. I was heading down the hill on one side and another dude was riding down the otherside of the hill and we met head on at a blind turn on the singletrack. My shoulder hit his chest, his tire hit my front rotor. He got the wing knocked out of him and my middle finger got caught between his bike and my ft brake lever. When the lever snapped it gouged a nice hole in my middle finger requiring me to ride another 5 miles to the trailhead to go to the hosptal.

  29. MMOUNTAINBIKER1 says:

$1800.00 with a 60 dollar helmet, shimano 525 spd pedals, and a chainstay guard included. Its hard to get discounts with most or all trek stores now corporately owned. They,on my first visit told me that they would match a competitors price but this bike would not be found at a privately owned shop unlike some lesser treks. So I guess I got a $300.00 price break if you consider the msrp ,sales tax and the extras. The service is what you expect buying a $1800.00 bike. great salesman and manager

WOW my dream bike! how much did you get it?

  31. Surfmus says:

@L3DZ3PMAN the front derailluer as long is 34.9mm can be compatible to any speed. 7,8 or 9 speed is just on the rear derailleur and chains but the front derailleur does rely on rear speed. I hope this helped.
I sold this frame and I am missing real bad. I had full xt with 9 speed prior to selling it.

  32. L3DZ3PMAN says:

Hi, I was also planning on upgrading my IronHorse 1.3 Warrior, but im not sure if the front derailleurs I want to install are compatible….Im wondering whether a shimano SLX FD-M660 will be compatible since it says that its compatible for 9 speed chains, but the IH 1.3 has 8 speed, as im sure you are aware…. Any advice on this matter will be greatly appreciated! Thank you

  33. 20ellison08 says:
